BOYSEN® receives Lead Safe Paint® Certification

July 13, 2016

Quezon City – Keeping the company’s commitment to produce safer and more environmentally friendly paint products, Pacific Paint (BOYSEN®) Philippines, Inc. is one of the recipients of the Lead Safe Paint® Certification; being one of the first companies in the world to earn this newly-established program and distinction.

Established by IPEN, an international non-government organization, the certification program enables customers to know with confiendece that the paints that they are purchasing meet the Philippines mandatory regulatory standard and the world’s strictest regulatory standard for lead content in paint. In this case, as tested by leading third-party certifier SCS Global Services (SCS), the certification ensures that all paint brands manufactured by the company contains less that 90 parts per million (ppm) or 0.009% total lead (dry weight). This makes the paints safe to use; keeping consumers, their families, the painters and even the employees of BOYSEN® protected from the hazards of lead exposure.

"It's certainly an honor to be one of the first companies in the world to earn Lead Safe Paint certification." said Johnson Ongking, Vice President of Pacific Paint (BOYSEN®) Philippines, Inc. “BOYSEN® voluntarily removed lead containing raw materials from its paint products over a decade ago, even when there were no regulations that required us to do so; so we're certainly pleased that our efforts to promote lead safe paints have been recognized by a global program."

“It’s a good assurance to BOYSEN®  users that our paints are as safe for them and their families as paints from developed countries.”

Renewable every three years, Pacific Paint (BOYSEN®) Philippines, Inc. aims to continue earning the certification as it works steadily in ensuring the production of quality and safe paints. Among the brands included in the certification are: BOYSEN® Paints, Nation® Paints, Virtuoso™ Silk Touch™ and Titan Superflex™ Elastomeric Paint.

The EcoWaste Coalition, a public interest NGO in the Philippines, and the Philippine Association of Paint Manufacturers, with support from IPEN and the Occupational Knowledge International, deliberated and endorsed the lead safe paint certification standard in 2014. This endorsement followed the adoption in 2013 of a historic government policy phasing out leaded architectural, decorative and household paints by January 1, 2017 and leaded industrial paints by January 1, 2020.
